Personal Statement

I am pleased to announce the publication of my new book, The First Fun SAT Book, which is most concise, engaging and effective approach to taking the SAT ever written. Every aspect of the exam is analyzed and explaned, and the work represents the synthesis of 12 years of teaching notes in the field. Since 1997, I have been working as an independent professional educator, teacher, tutor and learning specialist.

I have worked with hundreds of students from dozens of San Francisco and the greater Bay Area's finest public and private schools, such as Lowell, Lick-Wilmerding, Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep, The San Francisco School, UC Berkeley, French-American Interntional School (FAIS-IHS), Urban, SOTA, and many others. I work with students of all ages and conduct up to 28 lessons per week in my Noe Valley and Berkeley offices. I also give on-site SAT classes at the International High School. I have also given classes at the following institutions: Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, the UCSF School of Nursing, and the San Francisco School.

I grew up in New Jersey and graduated from Livingston High School in 1987 as a National Merit Scholar, 5th academically in a class of 430. He attended Columbia University in New York and received a B.A. in mathematics in 1991. I entered a math PhD program at Columbia in 1991 and completed a year of graduate work in mathematics in 1992

From 1992 to 1996, I lived, worked, wrote and travelled from my base in Prague, Czech Republic. My writing credits include poetry, stories and articles published in Bohemian Verses, Watchword Press, Yazzyk, Velvet, Prognosis, the Prague Anthology and others. I also founded and ran for four years the vibrant "Beefstew" weekly reading and performance series. In addition I wrote an original theatricalplay, Two Can Live As Cheaply, staged by "Misery Loves Company." My travels from that period include visits to Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, India, Israel, Hungary, Poland, and of course the Czech countryside.

From 1997 to 2000 I lived for three years in Atlanta, Georgia where taught for the Math Set, a prestigious learning center; Woodward Academy, a private high school; and Advantage Testing, a national test prep. company.

In 2000, my business moved to San Francisco where I founded Insight Tutoring, dedicated to providing affordable SAT test prep classes and a wide range of educational services to all students. I have spent thousands of hours researching standardized tests and creating original materials designed to master them. Insight Tutoring now offers GRE and SSAT classes as well, and is available to bring these courses to interested schools in the greater San Francisco area.
